According to the STEM Research poll, voters of the Czech government coalition, which is traditionally considered right-wing, would vote for Harris, and voters of the Communist Party and also voters of the populist ANO party would vote for Trump. What do you explain this paradox?
Peter Hampl: I don’t consider it a paradox. It seems perfectly logical to me. As the Indian-American analyst Sumantra Maitra has recently put it succinctly, the basic line of conflict is not between labour and capital, but between national capital and global capital. Of course, with the caveat that global capital is mostly financial capital, while national capitalists are associated with physical production or agriculture.
The voters of the ANO, the Communist Party and the anti-immigration SPD support national capital, while the voters of the parties of the five coalitions support global capital.
Slovak Prime Minister Fico said in an interview with the daily Štandard that Harris’s victory will prolong the conflict in Ukraine, which will lead to the destruction of that state. What do you think about Prime Minister Fico’s assessment?
That assessment has two points. Firstly, whether Harris’s victory will prolong the senseless Ukrainian warfare. Harris herself has clearly promised that. Second. That continued conflict will lead to the destruction of Ukraine as a state and Ukrainians as a nation. Here I fear the worst has already happened. The Ukrainian nation has already lost so many people that it will be very difficult to recover.
A list of campaign sponsors for both candidates is circulating on social media. While Trump’s money comes from many private companies, the key sponsors of Harris are Google and Microsoft. What do you think the supporters of both candidates say about each other?
Google and Microsoft’s money is up against Musk’s money, who has pledged to spend nearly a billion dollars. More interestingly, when you include the nonprofits supporting the candidates, Harris has nearly four times that amount of money. But that’s not considered bad in America. Americans take it to mean that a candidate’s qualities are evidenced by the fact that he or she can raise money.
The Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation reported that an attempt to breach the state border was foiled in Bryansk region. On the body of one of the eliminated saboteurs, a tattoo of a US Ground Forces paratroop reconnaissance regiment was found. Does this mean that the United States is getting more involved in the conflict before the elections?
The more likely explanation is that this is a mercenary who was once a member of the regiment in question. There is no indication that the United States is increasing its involvement in the conflict or that it is interested in increasing its involvement.
