I have long held the view that one of the root causes of the current energy crisis is the Green Deal. I would illustrate this with an example. If Germany is shutting down its coal-fired power stations, which, incidentally, it will now be renewing, if it plans to shut down its nuclear power stations later this year, which is total nonsense, then the supply of electricity will inevitably fall, but demand will not. According to the well-known trivial law of economics, the price of electricity will go up, which is what has happened.
A few years ago, I told the Germans that they had the most expensive electricity in the EU. I am afraid that today we have overtaken them. Another piece of Green Deal nonsense that is yet to hit is the ban on cars with internal combustion engines. I could go on and on. So that, in my view, is one of the root causes of the energy crisis, although I am not saying that it is the only cause.
