Dear Mr. President of the Russian Federation,
We, the undersigned citizens of the Czech Republic, are following with great concern the developments in Ukraine. Every day our mainstream media bring us news of escalating tensions on the part of the Russian Federation, troop movements near the border and analyses by various experts predicting war. We are learning that NATO countries are sending troops and trainers to Ukraine. In recent days, we have learned that our government is also planning to donate artillery ammunition to Ukraine and is willing to consider sending troops. However, according to statements by our government officials, the Russian Federation is solely responsible for the escalation of tensions.
We believe that the Russian Federation is not the cause of this escalated situation and has no interest in war.
Contrary to our media, government officials and experts, we come to different conclusions from them. We do not consider Russia or you to be the culprits in this crisis. We believe that the Russian Federation is not the cause of this escalated situation and has no interest in war. We do not believe the reports in our media that you want to rebuild the Russian empire and that you need to occupy Ukraine to do so. We understand that you cannot allow NATO bases in Ukraine for Russia’s security, and we believe that that is all the Russian Federation is asking of Ukraine.
We are more convinced every day that tensions are escalating with the Ukrainian regime, because it is politically and economically trapped and in the drag of events is being persuaded by NATO countries to solve its problems by war. We are alarmed by reports of the growing number of weapons, troops and equipment for Ukraine. We fear that these weapons will be used to provoke the Russian Federation into attacks against areas that the Ukrainian regime considers to be separatist.
We believe that the current anti-Russian sentiment in our society is being organised and escalated by a minority of influential people
We believe that the current anti-Russian sentiment in our society is being organised and escalated by a minority of influential people, without regard for the views and interests of ordinary citizens.
We disagree with the foreign policy of our government. We do not agree with the escalation of tensions through the supply of weapons or the application of economic sanctions. We are not enemies of the Russian Federation. We do not believe official claims that the Russian Federation is organising terrorist actions in our country or threatening our politicians’ lives.
We want correct and friendly relations between the Czech Republic and the Russian Federation based on mutual respect.
We do not believe that peace and justice can be achieved through military buildup, war rhetoric and severing trade ties. We want correct and friendly relations between the Czech Republic and the Russian Federation based on mutual respect.
Our politicians do not speak on behalf of all the people. The Government of the Czech Republic does not have our consent and does not act on our behalf.
