When asked by a journalist what I said about the fact that an American foundation is spending money to change the content of civic education in Czech schools:
“Of course, in an independent state it would be unthinkable for a foreign foundation to influence the teaching of citizenship. But the Czech Republic is not an independent state, so there is no reason to be outraged.”
I confess that I am bored of these debates where the speaker seemingly assumes that the Czech Republic is a democracy or an independent state and then gets upset that something is happening that contradicts that. It is time to acknowledge reality and think both about what can be achieved within the realms of possibility and about how to change that state of affairs.
