In China, they are working hard on “the cinification of Islam” – that is, on creating an Islam that is compatible with the Chinese worldview, their lifestyle and values. As has been made clear by the Party leadership, Muslims simply have to adapt, there is no alternative. Can this work? Never before in history has it succeeded. There have been various forms of seemingly accommodated Islam, but once the pressure has passed (perhaps the central government has been weakened), Islam has returned to its historical form. This is why I argue in Breaking the Walls that Islam is rubbery. It bends relatively easily, but then it returns to its original state.
Will China be able to create something that works? It’s not impossible, because the knowledge of the human brain is somewhere different today than it was a hundred years ago. But the risk is enormous.
In many Arab countries today you will find a more moderate Islam than in the UK, France or the Czech Republic.
However, note that both Europe and the United States have completely resigned themselves to such a thing, and accept ancient Islam with all its problems. In many Arab countries today you will find a more moderate Islam than in the UK, France or the Czech Republic. Macron’s attempt to ‘defend republican values’ ended before it properly began, and that is that.
Years ago, when we tried to stop or at least slow down the Islamisation of the Czech Republic, we formulated three conditions that Islam must meet in order to be tolerated in our environment:
First. It recognises freedom of expression even in matters of faith. It clearly states that violence is not an argument and clearly leads all its believers to do so.
Second. It recognizes the rights of every person to freely change their religion and clearly rejects all attempts to bully or even kill “apostates”.
Third. It allows Muslim women to marry non-believers.
